We currently use MQJ Explorer Beta release V0.13 to load files into different queues. This is all done in a WinXP environment.

Is it possible to use this product via command line and automate the loading of files?

Thanks in advance

You're better off (IMHO) using something like qload if you want a command line interface. It's a support pac & therefore more robust than a beta version.

I looked at the qload pdf on the IBM site and all I saw was loading the queues to a file. I am loading FILES to a queue. Would this product work?

If you don't think this is right for you, try the q program.

Certainly the MQJ Explorer (and the MQ Explorer) have no command line interface I'm aware of. Which is of course not to say there isn't one.

Write your own program to do this.

Or better yet buy one - perhaps the batch toolkit from CapitalWare, or PM4Data if you're really loading FILES to QUEUES.

Don't use shortcuts where you need a real business application.

You are correct!!!

I am not looking for shortcuts!! I don't know of any vendors. I need a good application for this.

Thanks for the good advice.

Hi,

Here is a list of free tools for MQ:
http://www.capitalware.biz/mq_tools.html

Here is a list of commercial tools for MQ:
http://www.capitalware.biz/mq_tools_comm.html

And in case you miss it, may I draw your attention to MQ Batch Toolkit. It does exactly what you are looking for plus a whole lot more.

I want to use short cut as there's no business requirement to justify but once in 6 month kind of requirement. So I want to load a file back to a queue. Is it fair to assume that there's no shortcut available. e.g. M071 etc. (I still haven't explored all features of this utility.)

Sure, you can use a bunch of things - M071, IH03, ma01, VisualEdit, etc. - to do a one-time or infrequent file->queue transfer.

It's just when the need is not infrequent or one time that you need to take a big step back and review things in detail.

And when it looks like the "infrequent" will turn into "once a week" that you need take a big step back, review things in detail, and build or buy a real business app.

Node - A. Installed MQ 6.0.2.1
Node - B. Installed MQ 5.3.13

Using MO71 utility, Can a back up of messages taken on queue that belongs to MQ 6.0.2.1 on node A be played into queue belonging to MQ 5.3.13 on Node B.

I've done it, seemingly there's no problem but have not tested in real time. Is there change in message content?

AFAIK there's not been a change in IBM supplied header layout since Hell thawed out

Thanks Vitor.

This is perhaps not an anwerable question with current conditions.
I checked out the q program and looking at so many options it can pipe line messages, I'd think that it also depends upon the way application is designed to read messages and what would happen if message descriptor changes and all other stuff.
So in nut shell, this result can be gotten from testing on UAT server.

I'm no more required to do this as condition that led me to put such a question are no more there. So probably I won't experiment in UAT.

But yes, q program can transfer just message content so message will take new message descriptor from destination queue.

I'd wanna save myself reading readme file of q program & ask a question: Does q program transfers a message from queue Q1 on host A to queue Q2 on host B?
