I found conflicting statements between the Infocenter that is installed locally with the Message Brokers Toolkit (6.0.0.1) and the Infocenter online at ibm.com regarding the authorization required to run mqsi_setupdatabase. One states that it must be run as root, the other states that it must be run as a user in the mqbrkrs group. They both show the same updated time stamps.
I recently installed V6 Message Broker and ran the command with a non-root user. It all seems to work, but not all code has been deployed yet and I am wondering if I am sitting on a time bomb. Any comments on experiences in this area are welcome.

Authorization
The user ID used to run this command must be a member of the mqbrkrs group.

The online version is going to be more up-to-date.
My understanding is that it's okay not to run mqsi_setupdatabase as root. All it really does is create some symlinks for some database libraries - and the only permissions needed are write access to the directions in question.
It is just a shell-script, so you can always verify what it does yourself. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
