Hello,

Is anyone using BIZTALK with the CAF installed on the mainframe?

We have a point to point config (2) qmgrs, MF/CICS to SUN and back. We also have BIZTALK, but it hops from the SUN to the MF also.

We would like to eliminate the hop to the SUN. I understand we would need an enhanced BIZTALK, but I'm wondering if we would also need CAF.

Any advice/experiences to offer?

If BIZTALK is making an MQ Client connection, you will need CAF.

Could you elaborate on MQ Client connection? What exactly is that?

What information do you give BIZTALK to tell it where the SUN qmgr is?

Currently Microsoft only supply a rather non-standard design of Biztalk MQ adapter which requires a Windows (no surprise there) queue manager to work. It does not use a client connection, you cannot connect Biztalk directly to a Sun Platform over MQ.

Furthermore it is necessary to run a piece of Biztalk code on this Windows queue manager. We have found that this causes many problems with MSCS.

You can of course connect this Windows QM to other QMs in the usual way with MQ channels.

If you use a more conventional Biztalk MQ adapter such as the i-way one then you can MQ client connect to any platform (in theory at least).

Microsoft are developing a new Biztalk MQ adapter which will use the MQ extended transactional client and therefore (hopefully) work with any queue manager platform.

A mainframe would need CAF to be used as the QM for a client channel (possibly rather expensive just to avoid a hop from a Sun or Windows).

Currently my advice would be to install a Windows MQ queue manager on the Biztalk server itself and keep the Biztalk MQ helper code away from other queue (shared) managers, or use the I-way Biztalk MQ adapter.
