Hi,
We recently changed the domain user account on a NT box that I used
to check on MQ. The new account cannot connect to the queue manager:

runmqsc MYQM
47P8479, 5639-B43 (C) Copyright IBM Corp. 1994, 2001
Starting MQSeries Commands.

AMQ8146: MQSeries queue manager not available.

No MQSC commands read.
No commands have a syntax error.
All valid MQSC commands were processed.

and:

dspmq

QMNAME(MYQM) STATUS(Ended unexpectedly)

But when I run the MQSeries Services GUI it tells me the queue manager is running, MQSeries Exploreer also says it is running, but will not let me connect to it.

The name of the domain user is lon-s-websphere-svc, is it possible the user account name is too long? Or are there settings in the users environment I need to add?

Thanks for any pointers.

Regards

Pete

for sure the user name is too long (> 12 is bad with your version),
MQ 5.2.1 is way out of support and so is NT :

first make an account shorter or equal 12 positions and try again, I strongly suggest to upgrade to Windows XP or Server and MQ to V6 as 5.3 is going out of support soon as well...

Hi,
The queue manager is running. It runs as a service, looks like the name of the user account is not an issue.

Regards

Pete

Is it running under that user id, or mqm? I'll lay odds it's not running under the one you're using for runmqsc.

v5.2 was very strict on the 12 character limit on user names; hence Administrator was a well known gotcha. For this and a multitude of other reasons you should upgrade.

The service appers to me to be running under the lon-s-webspheresvc domain account. Previously it run under a domain account called svc_websphere, which is 13 characters.

Upgrading is not a path I can take, and I cannot go into why not , it would take far too long!

Thanks

Pete

I'm never upset to be proved wrong by someone armed with facts.

Given I don't know how you got a 13 character id to work reliably (especially a domain user!), I have nothing further to offer on how to get an 18 character one to work so will bow out, pausing only to wish you good fortune with your problem.

I have plenty of time.

You may find upgrading is a quicker and simpler process than fixing this issue. I repeat my hope that this is not the case. I point out that even if you get this fixed, you're still vunerable to the next problem...

I am just grateful for any help I can get, this is a very good site. I hope I will be able to beat this and be able to post the solution.

Thanks

Pete
