can someone pls advice if we can connect from a PC ( as MQ client) to MQ on mainframe ?

I am able to use RFHutilC to do some PUTs/GETs from my PC to a QMGR on mainframe but I read in this forum that MQ on mainframe doesn't allow client connections or something like that.

Pls advice.

thnx.
ydsk.

Yes.......but only if you have CAF (Client Attach Facilty) installed on the mainframe.

Not 100% sure about the JAVA side of things though. Maybe it can do it without CAF?

Java still requires the CAF to establish a client connection to a mainframe.

If you can establish a connection to the mainframe with rfhutilC then it sounds like the CAF is in place.

Unless you mean that you're clienting onto your PC's queue manager and sending messages via that to the mainframe.

I don't have a qmgr on my PC, just MQ client.

Our MQ admin is saying that CAF isn't installed on the mainframe.

So, I am not sure how it works.

Thanks.

It can't work.

So either you're not connecting directly to the mainframe, or your MQ admin is wrong, and the CAF is installed.

I trust this forum more than our MQ admin

I am assuming CAF is installed on our mainframe.

Our MQ admin said we can't use the REXX MQ panels because CAF isn't installed on mainframe.

Does it let one use ISPF/REXX panels ( TSO MQ panel ) to display / alter / create MQ objects on the mainframe ?

thnx.

CSQOREXX is the MVS native ISPF panel admin application to do interactive (non-MQSC script) MQ admin.

Then your MQ Admin guy is misguided.

As long as you have mainframe 3270 emulator access, a TSO account and a system programmer that has installed the ISPF/MQ stuff, you are good to go.

Maybe your MQ admin doesn't trust you either? And has found a creative alternative to RACF to preventing access to MQ?

CAF has no connection to the ISPF panels, and is not needed for their use.

You find it, tell me where it is & I'll apply there.
