Hi,

Does anyone know whether its possible to downgrade a QM from 6.0 to 5.3.

We'd like to repeatedly test our upgrade procedure. We tried reinstalling 5.3 after uninstalling 6.0 (and selecting the option to retain the QMs).

Unfortunately we're getting the AMQ7017 message even though the logs path is correct. I'm guessing the upgrade to 6.0 changed the logs in some way.

This is not critical as we may just recreate the QMs, however, it would be interesting to know if anyone has done this. Our platform is 6.0/5.3 on W2K3. with CSD11 or release pack 2

It would also be useful to know in case of a backout strategy when we come to migrate production.

Cheers

I wouldn't call it a downgrade... but a backout

you need to take proper backups before installation...
you mention windows... so maybe backed out 5.3 expects stuff in the registry where mq 6.0 has removed them?

AFAIK the only reverse gear is a clean down and reinstallation, restoring the old queue managers from the pre-upgrade backups.

Which of course everyone takes....

just reread you post... you did restore the QM data right?

not just uninstall MQ 6.0 keep data and install MQ 5.3 ...

MQ 5.3 does not understand QM data that was migrated to 6.0 ...

you need to restore your 5.3 data backup

Thanks Michael,

That was the confirmation I needed... that 6.0 migration changes the QM data..

We retained the data after uninstalling 6.0. Then during the re-install of 5.3 it picked up our 4 QMs which looked promising... it even added the registry entries for them...even more promising.... but then would not start...

I agree this is not a route anyone would probably want to go down but for interests sake alone it was useful to find out that the actual data changed as well as the binaries with the move to 6.0.

Cheers!
