Hi All

I tried to migrate MQ V5.3 to MQ V6.0, but after migration, i couldn't able to start the queue manager at any way.

its prompting the below error
AMQ6118: An internal WebSphere MQ error has occurred (893)

Os - HP-UX,
I thought of going ahead with MQ V6 , Refresh Pack 2

The FDC's generated were
Probe ID: HL000001
Minor Errorcode :- hrcE_MQLO_SEMA

Probe Id :- AL061012
Minor Errorcode :- hrcE_MQLO_UNEXPECTED_OS_ERROR.

It resembles like an authorization issue.

Where i might have gone wrong, is it while installing the software.
I searched and found out the below sites
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1IY33837
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21176435
even i searched this forum but most of them are for MQ V5.3

Please give you valueable inputs regarding this

Thanks and Regards
Gayathri

You don't say what platform you're on, but if you're on a flavour of Unix I'd check:

a) that there are no held semaphores from a previous 5.3 process
b) that your kernel parameters are valid for a 6.0 installation
c) that you don't have a raft of queue managers soaking up resources and this last one doesn't start (though you imply this is the only one you're starting)

One possible cause of the lack of semaphore resource which I'm theorising could be your problem is that other queue managers are using up all the available resource; i.e. you can start 100 queue managers but you can't start the 101st.

I had discounted this as the implication of your post is that you can't start any queue managers post-upgrade, but included the theory for completeness.

Until you start them, they don't use resource (except disc).

Hi Vitor

The most strange thing is we do have only one queue manager in that node.

as i said, i created and started one queue manager in that node.
and its running fine in that. (note: i didn't create any queues under this)
Just created and started thats all.

so as you said, let me check the semaphores and kernel parameters

Thanks and Regards

Slightly confused (it's been that sort of a day):

How do you reconcile these 2 statements? Or is it just me?

You're not the first today; I've done it myself on a couple of occasions!

So there's no issue with the instalation per se as you can create and start queue managers? The issue is entirely with the migrated one?

Sounds a bit like it didn't close down cleanly & something got left looking for a semaphore value. I'd be well inclined to be considering a PMR at this point. There's no good reason why a migrated queue manager shouldn't work.
