How to I recover the message position in a particular queue?
There is the MsgSeqNumber, but it seems to work within message groups.
As far that I checked, the "Position" column in MQ Explorer does not relate directly to any of the MQMD fields.
Besides that, if I find a way to recover such info, how can I recover a particular message using its position as criteria?
I know this is strange (we have FIFO or FIFO + priority, we should not care about msg position), but some people where I work asked about this... |

You can't ask for a message by position, not least because its position may change between when you find out its location and when you ask for the message. And another app may get it first, and then which message will you get?
This sounds a bit like what you are being asked for: Get-by-msg-id. |
