Hi
Here we migrated the mq series from 5.3 to 6.0 , we didnt face any issues at all.
You can install the latest refresh pack 2 of MQ 6
I request you to go through the documents before going head with the upgrade/migration.

go through the quick beginings of AS/400 and migration issues document
Thanks and Regards

Hi all,
Currently our AS/400 has MQ 5.3 with CSD 12 on it. We now want to upgrade it to MQ 6.0 with any latest fix paks available for it.
I'm new to installing/upgrading MQ software on AS/400. I highly appreciate anyone if they can take a little bit of time and make me understand the process to install MQ software 6.0 over the existing MQ software 5.3.
I'm really hesitant to proceed further with the upgradation because i cannot afford to messup even little bit on this machine. I would really appreciate (very much) if anyone can help me with the measures i need to take and the steps to proceed with MQ upgradation to 6.0.
Thank you very much in advance... |

Hi there,
The best thing to do, in case of something drastic going wrong, is just backup your libraries. Perhaps a side by side install of MQ 6 and MQ 5.3 is also a suggestion, so you dont have to get rid of the 5.3 configuration until you know for sure that the version 6 configuration is cosher.
Is usually use the following methods of backing everything up before running the upgrade:
RCRMQMIMG OBJ(*ALL) OBJTYPE(*ALL) MQMNAME(QMGRNAME)
CRTLIB BACKUP
CRTSAVF BACKUP/QMBACKUP
SAVLIB LIB(QMQMGRNAME) DEV(*SAVF) SAVF(BACKUP/QMBACKUP)
Once this is done, you know all your QM objects for backed up and secure in case everything blows up.
Then run the install of MQ6 (leaving the 5.3 install in place).
I would suggest having a good read through the migration/quick beginnings stuff too though.
