I'm planning for a certification exam. It is a need of the time for me.
I'm at beginner level in MQ ,which exam should I focus on?(there are three exams as I have gathered from the IBM site)
Please help.
Also are the redbooks sufficient reading material for the exams.
Ofcourse implementation experience cannot be replaced with any thing but I cannot possibly have implementation /admin experience on all the platforms....
Please guide me.
Thanking you all in anticipation
Regards

Hi,
for a beginner in MQ, i think its quiet difficult to take test without having working knowledge. You can go for "MQADMIN" but without working on the product if you take a test, i guess it wont help you much.
But, if you want to try one, get hold of MQSERIES on windows and any one of unix flavours(AIX/LINUX/HPUX/SOLARIS) and read mqseries in ISERIES(basics)/MQSERIES ON Z/OS(basics). It will take a considerable period to get hold of mq. take enought time.. work on the product and take test.
All the Best!! |

Hello prince,
I ain't going to take the test immediately. I will definitely work on MQ first. But I need to have some target with regards to certification in front of me. There are these three tests and I could not figure out which one to go for since none of these tests have a prerequisite test to be cleared...
I can work with MQ on Windows NT and compatibles and Linux...so is it sufficient?? Will just reading about MQ on z/OS be enough?
Thanks,
Regards

If you read (and learn) all the MQ redbooks and the MQ docs (10 000 pages or more), then I guess you will be able, to do the certification .
But you still would not be able, to set-up and run complex MQ systems.
(I have more than 9 years MQ experience, but I am NOT certified ) _________________ Regards

YA thats true,
Without knowledge and work on experience on different machines and with MQ I dont think its that easy.Recently I have just cleared the system admin .But that taught me that i need to know many more.however I managed clearing it.Just reading wouldnt help you. _________________ Jogi |

I feel right test for you is IBM Certified MQSERIES ADMINISTRATOR(TEST 994).

if your aim is only to clear the test, my view is that this should be enough.

yes, that should do. but working on this would be entirely different compared to other platforms.
As HubertKleinmanns pointed out, you need to read all the manuals or most of them(for eg., 7/8 out of 10)!
and ofcourse you can get more information if you visit mqseries.net often! |

As a confidence check you can pay for ($10.00) and take dummy tests via the IBM website; they are a good way of identifying weak areas of knowledge.
As has been pointed out by HubertKleinmanns knowing the answers is a lot different to applying the knowledge!
Good luck! _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

People its been a great pleasure talking to you...
Thank you for all the advice you have given me...
I'll try to gain as much practicle knowledge as possible first.
then as exerk has said i'll go for the dummy test first for knowing the dark areas.
And i have already made MQSeries.net my home page |
