Hello,
Whats the best way to migrate all object and security definitions from MQ on Z/OS to a Unix or Windows system?
As far that I researched, there is no z/OS version of the SAVEQMGR Supportpac (MS03) nor the configuration backup script (MS65).
Thanks! |

Read the z/OS System Admin Guide. Look specifically at CSQUTIL. CSQUTIL has many options - one of which is to create a flat file with all of the object definitions. |

if you are on MQ V6 you can use the saveqmgr client version.
otherwise you need to look at the CSQUTIL MAKEDEF utilities, but that can not be used to feed directly into a Unix or Windows QMgr.
I am currently working with a customer who has this need aswell and I am in the process of integrating this functionality into MQDocument (check out the Q&A section) _________________ Michael

Feed directly? Yes, you will need to export the wonderful sequential file that CSQUTIL MAKEDEF creates. There's ftp, Extra! and PCOMM both support file transfer. The destination could be on a shared SAN file. Lots of ways. |

true, but not all attributes of objects available on z/OS are available on Unix or Windows... so there is some content cleaning needed, that besides some of the formatting which is just a little different (i.e. - at the end of each line, no , between attribute values, less free format on Unix/Windows as on z/OS and on... ). _________________ Michael

csqutil is fine for the mq objects (as already written the file must be changed because of plattform specific attributes).
for security, afaik there is nothing that supports you. security on mainframe is done with RACF (in most cases), object profiles are organized in classes, and users or group are given permits with different levels to these profiles.
see your z/OS RACF administrator, he should be able to give you a list of the profiles and classes defined, and you can then think about how to adopt that to the OAM of your new environment. _________________ Regards, Butcher |
