Hi All!
I googled around for a road map for future versions of WebSphere MQ, but couldn't find any, please direct me to any such page or share if you have some knowledge about it. Also I am interested in future versions of WebSphere Message broker, and WebSphere ESB.
I'd be very surprised if IBM has got no road maps for its products!
Regards,
Sajid. |

There are future versions planned for Broker and MQ and WESB.
I do not believe that, except in very loose detail, that any plans for these versions, are generally available.
If you are having trouble finding this, you should perhaps ask your IBM Software Sales Representative. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

We are currently in the latest versions of the products like 6.x with MQ.
If IBM doesn't publish roadmaps thats kind of surprising because thats usual practice these days and helps customers have confidence in the future of the product.

Surprising? Why? It would be giving the competition an edge.
I don't think I have ever seen IBM give out detailed 'roadmap' on where they expect products to be and what features may be upcoming.
What they will tell you, however, is strategic direction and how things expected to fit together.
IBM has really never been into letting people know what is coming unless the product is 'close to market'. |

The only such material IBM publishes is the out of support dates. I use these to provide customers with confidence that they'll get return on investment by the time they need to upgrade. Aside from the business benefits accruing from doing whatever they're doing with the software.
IMHO a news item like IBM announcing "WMQ is no longer a strategic part of the Websphere brand and will be discontinued" is unlikely to be followed by "next week". The installed customer base is such that the Websphere product is as likely not to have a future as DB2 or CICS! And IBM products have either migration or backwards compatability as standard. It's a mind set thing. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Thanks for making fun out of it, We are currently evaluating 6.0 versions of both MQ and Broker. We are evaluating MS Biztalk Server 2006 as well.
The obvious question when you are evaluating something is what the future holds for it like when will be the next version coming, what roughly would be the added and improved features of it. Like MS has specified that BTS 2006 R2, would be using its new Indigo foundation for WS, among other things, it helps users to be mentally prepared and to polish there skills in advance for it before it comes. To me this is a better approach.
My boss asked me to include the roadmaps for the products in the presentation, I searched and couldn't find it for IBM products, so I asked here.
IBM doesn't do this, it must have a good reason for it, no one daughts that IBM is the leader in the Enterprise Middleware market.

Sajid. |

What exactly you need from IBM or Microsoft? Do you need future versions or Support from the vendor? I don't know about the MS but IBM will provide better service which is very helpful for you. |

It's seldom that a new IBM version requires a step change is skills - one of the new features in WMB v6 is the Java support, but ESQL still works (see my comment above re backwards compatibility). The IBM release cycle, unlike Microsoft, does not introduce radically new features (often because the old ones don't work) but evolves slowly and predicatably.
As to the added and improved features, there's no roadmap because IBM is driven by customer demands, not least from this forum (you will notice a number of people from Hursley hanging round in here). WMQ v6 has a whole new suite of clustering features driven out of a percieved inconvienience with the v5.3 workload algorthem, but again a v5.3 setup will work with the new software.
No-one was trying to cause offense (certainly I was not) even if there was a certain amount of fun being had, but it's a different mindset with IBM product and the question allowed for some MSoft baiting. Questions like "what's next" don't occur because we're driving that through various means - as chiru said you get better service from IBM and no contact admin surprises (like needing a new skill set or having to mentally re-architect your solution). _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

contact your IBM Sales rep, explain the situation you are in and you need information, ofcourse IBM has roadmaps for products, they just don't share them publicly! _________________ Michael

So you are asking when IBM will come out with WebsphereMQ 6.2 or 7.0?
I don't think IBM itself knows this and until a formal announcement is made to the contrary, any speculation would be simply that. Businesses do things differently. It kind of depends on the nature of the product. Thus far, I have not had any messaging issues regarding to incompatibility of versions of MQ, and I would bank that you can probably be assured of the same. The only variances I have seen seem to come down to individual architectures. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

Hi,
If I had to put money on it, I would think that IBM would like to release a stable version of WMQ (fix all of those v6 bugs - there's just so many!!) and officially support Microsoft Vista.
Hence, I'm thinking we might see WMQ v6.1 released at the WMQ Conference in May 2007.
That's my 2 cents.
