I had an opportunity to examine a working broker environment in which:
The Toolkit, Config Mgr, and Config Mgr QM all run on the same Windows XP.
The Broker and the Broker's QM run on an AIX server.
Looking at the channels I see that sender/receiver channels exist between these two queue managers (in each queue manager).
However, I saw only 1 remote queue definition in the Config Mgr's QM, that for SYSTEM.DEFAULT.REMOTE.QUEUE.
It must be the case that the Config Mgr will need to queue configuration requests to a queue local to and hosted by the broker (like SYSTEM.BROKER.ADMIN.QUEUE or SYSTEM.BROKER.CONFIG.QUEUE) (otherwise the broker could not get successfully).
What I don't understand is how the config mgr can queue configuration requests to the broker's local queue without remote queue definitions. Anybody know how this works? |

The CM is setting the target QMGR of the broker as well as the queue. The CM QMGR will see this and know to put the message on the xmit Q for the brokers QMGR.
Remember when you added the broker to the domain and you had to tell it the name of the brokers QMGR? That is how the CM know which QMGR to send the messages for this broker.
If you are using plain channels, don't for get to setup triggering to start those channels. An alternative is to put the QMGRs in a cluster. _________________ Joseph

Joe's got it right, but he missed mentioning two key facts.
1) ConfigMgr talks to Broker using normal MQ intercommunications - if you have questions about this, reading the MQ Intercommunications guide is the best place to start
2) Outside of a cluster, it is the name of the XMITQ that matters. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
