IBM WebSphere Message Broker and Event Broker V6.0 support HP-UX Itanium platform and deliver tooling improvements

IBM United States Software Announcement 206-304
November 28, 2006

Today IBM announced support for HP-US on Itanium - and - enhancements for the V6 Toolkit. A link to the webpage is included on the WMB web page. It is: http://www-306.ibm.com/fcgi-bin/common/ssi/ssialias?infotype=an&subtype=ca&appname=Demonstration&htmlfid=897/ENUS206-304

From the Description section of the announcement letter:

Planned availability dates

* November 30, 2006 — HP-UX Itanium (electronic delivery)
* December 15, 2006 — WebSphere Message Broker Extensions, Samples, and Demos CD (electronic delivery)
* December 22, 2006 — Tooling improvements (delivery through Rational® Product Updater)
* February 9, 2007 — Tooling improvements (electronic delivery)
* March 2, 2007 — HP-UX Itanium and tooling improvements (media)

WebSphere Message Broker: WebSphere Message Broker V6.0 delivers significant new function for integrating virtually all applications while continuing to improve performance, ease of use, and flexibility for developers and administrators.

In addition, WebSphere Message Broker and Event Broker V6.0 deliver support for the HP-UX Itanium operating system.

The following improvements are made to the WebSphere Message Brokers toolkit:

* Simplified ESB scenarios:
o Artifact creation (for example, support drag and drop from the navigator onto the canvas)
o Wizards (for example, create new application from existing WSDLs and XSDs)
o Property dialogs (for example, reorganize properties for various nodes)
o Testing of flow applications
* Simplified out-of-the-box scenarios (keeping basics simple, terminology, user interface, and so on):
o Quick start for new applications (for example, new quick start wizard)
o Extend Navigator to provide logical view (for example, all new artifacts creation wizards should be working set aware)
* Simplified Web Services (SOAP) support with modified and improved flow nodes and editor behaviors to allow seamless use of common SOA standard technologies (XSD, WSDL, XSLT, XPath) (dragging and dropping a WSDL onto the flow canvas)

This is going to be a very nice release with lots of goodies.

I think of it as an early present from Santa Claus.. coming December 22.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other recent items of interest:

WMB runtime V6.0.0.3 (FP3) is already available

SupportPac IS02 has been updated for this release of the toolkit

SupportPac IA9O is new and provides two new nodes - SOAPExtract and SOAPEnvelope - also for use with the new tooling.

This support pac shows many of the new features of the WMB v6.0.2 Toolkit in a presentation format.

While you are there, also take a look the

In addition to the 602 update, there is also a small ifix that should be applied.

Has anyone been able to get this update via RUP. I get the following error message returned:

Invalid update site url for IBM WebSphere Message Brokers Toolkit: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/mqseries/fixes/wbimbv60

Cheers,

Eddie - that link worked for me - also, you can get the updates in zipped format and apply them locally - at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/mqseries/fixes/wbimbv60-zips/

The one you choose is based on the current level of the toolkit.

I had that issue - it may have to do with FTP transport not being available or blocked by a firewall?

Nope, not a firewall issue. I shut it off, and tried again. Still failed.

The RUP was working correctly on Dec 18th, as that's when it downloaded the Interim Fix 8. I can't think of anything I changed between then, and the 1st time I tried to grab the new Tooling, which was before Christmas.

But, if I go to the location that the Tooling says is invalid, and "poke around", I can only see the 6.0.0.2 stuff. Nothing for 6.0.0.3.

And, if I go up a directory, to where Bill pointed me, that also only has 6.0.0.2, no 6.0.0.3.

Cheers,

I tried once, had similar problems, and then downloaded the local install and ran that way.

Solution found.

I updated the Update Sites, under Preferences to the full path/file name: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/mqseries/fixes/wbimbv60/policy_messagebroker.xml The RUP then found the updates.

But, c'mon guys, you're really confusing people with the version numbers. The previous level was 6.0.0.2 and this one is 6.0.2.

And the Broker is 6.0.0.3.

Cheers.

So it should be an order of magnitude better..
