This is really targeted toward anyone currently upgrading to version 6.x or who has already upgraded.

What features in version 6 do you find that most justify the upgrade?

Version 5.3 won't be supported in 10 months.

Other than that, I never find myself dealing with a 5.3 QM wishing it was a 6.0 QM (I have about a 50/50 split)

I wouldn't want to do much without the v6 Explorer.

1) mqget to clear the queues when they are open i.e explorer
2) Listner is a object , command server and trigger monitor all are objects , So no need to create the scripts for each one
3) SSL in Windows has its own gskkit
4) ZOS pcf commands and explorer support , and JMS object Support in Exporer and there are other plugins like health check for explorer ,

Also the webservices, SOAP ( I haven't worked on it , but it may be a better feature )

I'd vote for the additional control (mqsc command to kill application connections) and instrumentation (age of oldest message, etc...) features.

Support withdrawl for 5.3 should be a big enough business case I owuld have thought especailly as the upgrade to 6.0 is free (except for z/OS of course )

For version 6 on z/OS I used the PCF support and remote administration as a good leverage too.

Thanks, monkey man! I agree that the first one is a "no brainer". But it's great that they finally have PCF support on mainframe. Not sure why that has been so long in coming....

I still thought maybe there was something else... I know that Java 5 support is rolled into version 6.1, but somehow I thought there was something involving a correction or capacities, etc. ... Can't seem to remember it, if it even exists....

Us propeller-heads are always looking for what's cool, works better/different as the business case.

Each new version/release brings more stability, reliability, functionality, and end-of-support for a prior version/release.

The real business case for initially implementing MQ (and any other thing) must include ongoing maintenace and upgrades. In our discussions with management (and others) we need to focus less on the bells and whistles, and more on making the infrastructure more reliable. After a while management will ask less 'why' we are upgrading.

What a utopian idea! I'm all for the concept, but with the management I've normally been exposed to, I wouldn't hold my breath!

Hi

1. MQ V6 incorporated the MQ Services with in the Explorer only
2. Easier to adminstrate than that of later MQ versions.
3. 64 bit Queue managers and 64 bit libraries are available.
4. IPV4 and IP6 compatiblity

There are couple of issues will face while upgrading to MQ V6.
1. CONNAME issue
2. CLWLUSEQ issue.

I will update this soon

Thanks and Regards
