Hi

We're building an acceptance envrionment, Windows 2003, WBIMB6, WMQ6.

MSCS Clustering : config manager + brokers on same machines.
Active:passive configuration.

Sorry I don't have any more details to hand, but all I know so far apart from the above is that the hardware specifications of each machine in the proposed cluster are different.

Generally speaking, will a cluster hold together provided the software requirements are satisfied ?

Generally speaking, one wants a node that has failed over to run at the same capacity as it had before it failed over.

A reduction of capacity in a failed over state will presumably have measurable business impact. This business impact should presumably be large enough to justify a full capacity failover machine.

Sometimes managment has to learn these thing the hard way, rather than by reading a document that clearly spells it out.

In other words, it is probably a false economy to purchase failover machines that are not the same capacity as the primary machines.

Technically, I would expect that MSCS would be capable of preserving a cluster across two machines that are not physically alike. I would also expect that doing so would increase the risk of MSCS failing in subtle ways at inappropriate times, however.
