Pl. check that you have entered the correct IP address (or Host Name) and port numbers while defining the channels. Make sure your Channel initiator and Channel Listners are running.

I you are talking about WebSphere MQ 5.3 ....

Set the environment variable MQNOREMPOOL to the value
1 using the "System" section of the environment variables panel
in the "System" control panel app, then reboot and retry the
test.

The problem is described by MS knowledge base article Q319952, and only applicable to 5.3.

There are scores, if not hundreds of reasons why your channels can be in retry mode.
You need to get more details in order to diagnose it.
I would recommend the following:
1) See if any FDCs were created
2) Check all three sets of MQSeries logs (overall, system, per queue manager)
3) Use the PING CHANNEL command
4) Try to start the channel manually with the runmqchl command

And then post the results here...
