Hi,
I am using MQ to communicate between a Java Application and GENTRAN.Is there any mechanism available by which GENTRAN can be informed as and soon a new file comes into the MQ. Any pointers to this would be greately appreciated.
We are using JMS for tne interaction between teh Java App and MQ on the other side.

Hi,
We are having an application which will create an xml file and send it to MQ series.From the MQ series it will be taken up By GENTRAN fro further processing.The reverse also happens. I will be using MQ as a mechanism which will act as a common asynchrous storage for between GENTRAN and the Java application to excahange xml files.
I wanted to know if there is any mechanism available in MQ that can inform the GENTRAN application that a new file has been dumped to the MQ by the Java Application. Somethign that will work like an message driven bean in java.
We are using 4.2.1 version of MQ.
Please feel free to get abck if you need any more info.

Don't know if the version you are stating supports it but it looks like it's more than 5 years out of date and certainly unsupported !!
You should move to 5.3 CSD 12 or 6.0.1.0 soonest.
Have you looked into triggering?

Thanks.That was helpfull. I am new to MQ series. Could you please let me know if it was IBM support or that this version(4.1.2) of MQ is not compatible with GENTRAN and JMS.
We might have to think of an upgrade.
Trigerring would be done in MQ right? I didnt know of that feature. I will look into that possibility. It would be certainly helpfull if you could give some more info on how it is to be done.

There is absolutely not any version of MQ that is numbered 4.1.2.
MQ went from version 2.x to version 5.0.

Described in the Application Programming Guide. Queue attributes to support it described in the Command reference. Other information in the System Admin manual

Thanks Vitor.Those references will certainly help.
Jefflowrey, the version we are using is 4.2.1. I think IBM site was also haveing some refernces about this. Please feel to correct me if I am wrong.

I'd be interested to see a link to that on the IBM site - I didn't think there was ever an MQ numbered 4.n.n either. My memory agrees with jefflowrey that we went from 2.n to 5.n.
In any event, given that 5.2 is now out of support I wouldn't use a 4.n for anything. CD as a drinks mat possibly...

Okay.
It could be that you are running MQ on iSeries - AS/400.
In that case, it could be that MQ is reporting itself as v4.2.1. But only because it's reporting itself as part of the OS version. IF that's the case, it's likely a v2.x queue manager (or maybe a v5.x queue manager) with some fixes.
