Installation of MQ 6.0 Server 64 bit for AIX 5.3 ML 4.
We had setup two LPARS (having one persistant IP assigned respectively on each LPAR)
IP on LPAR1 : xxx.xxx.xx.aa and
IP on LPAR2 ; yyy.yyy.yy.bb
- Installed MQ 6.0 Server for AIX 5.3 on LPAR1.
- Shared Storage for MQ binaries, as HACMP has been configured for Active/Passive Mode for MQ.
- Installation Path - /usr/mqm & /var/mqm, where mqm is shared SAN Storage by both LPAR's
- Installed MQ Component - Runtime;SDK;Server;Client;Sample Programs;Java Messaging
This setup is configured for Active/Passive Mode for MQ. That means even if LPAR1 goes down due to various reasons, MQ should
be available on other LPAR i.e LPAR2
So, brought LPAR1 down and could able to see MQ Binaries usr/mqm;var/mqm files from LPAR2. However, i couldnt start MQ QMGR
from LPAR2.
If anybody worked or have information about this configuration done , request to let me know how to proceed further.
Your help in this regard i highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Have installed MQ Server (usr/mqm,var/mqm) and created a QMGR and LOCAL QUEUE and put a test message on Local Q on LPAR1.
What i have done so far......Created a QMGR on LPAR1 and bring down HACMP and then bring UP and from LPAR2 trying to access that QMGR(which was created in LPAR1).
My question is could i start QMGR from LPAR2? could i browse message on Local Queue?
Appreciate for yourr help and time.
Thanks and Regards

The operating system, the HA product and WebSphere MQ should already be installed, using the normal
procedures on all systems in the cluster. You should install WMQ onto internal disks on each of the nodes
and not attempt to share a single installation on shared disks. It is important that under normal operating
conditions you are running identical versions of software on all cluster nodes. The only exception to this is
during a rolling upgrade.
Above is from the following PDF , You need to install MQ on Both Servers on Internal disks

Download the Support Pack.
Read the instructions included with it.
Read them again.
Follow them, exactly.
It works!
You have to install MQ separately on both LPARs.
You have to use the Support Pack to create your queue manager on the active node.
You have to use the Support Pack to create your queue manager on the passive node.
You have to configure HACMP to know about the queue manager and the two machines and how to fail over.
You have to have diskspace that is shared between the two machines.
If you do all these things, following the instructions in the Support Pack, then when you use HACMP to fail one machine over to the other, then messages on the local queues on the queue manager will be available. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
