Everyone,
I know this is wierd, but I'm RDPing over to a Win2k server thats running MQ v5.1 and when I invoke the MQ Explorer it's only showing me the qmgr's on the box - but nothing else, I can't see the queue, channels, cluster, etc... Things I would expect to see in MQ Explorer.

Also, when I run runmqsc [qmgrname] it has no effect. It tells me the qmgr is unavailble with an AMQ8146.

I going to be attempting to migrate this environment to a new server but I can't tell what I'm dealing with. Any sugguestions?

Thank Dean

It is extremely weird.

Why would you possibly run v5.1?

It's deffently not by choice. This is a server we're recreating at another location and they want 5.1 installed. If I could see queues and channels it would really make things easier to migrate - could this possible be a client install of 5.1? Thanks

You may not be able to do this at all over RDP.

You can attempt to connect the MQExplorer to the queue manager as if the queue manager was remote.

You can also look at something like VNC instead of RDP.

You know , I think I may have read that there could be a problem using terminal services with V5.1. I'll reasearch more. Thanks Jeff - I do appreciate your input.

I've had good results with net meeting (using 5.3 though).
If the server supports ssh you might want to use that.

I'll give it a shot, I remember a few years back we used PcAnywhere and it seemed to work fine. I'll explore all avenues and let you guys know for future reference.

Thanks Dean

Dean, if you are stuck with MQ 5.1, then yes, pcAnywhere is the way to go. Remote Desktop is not a (supported) option until MQ 5.3.

Hi,

This problem is because you do not have any rights to MQ - ensure you are in with MQM or administrators on the local machine.

Yet another case of poor IBM coding for the Windows version.

Cheers

No.

This problem has to do with the nature of Terminal Services/Citrix/Remote Desktop connections, and how the MMC was written in version 5.1 and 5.2 of MQSeries.

It's got nothing to do with OAM security.

Just wanted to let everyone know I ended up using VNC to connect to the V5.1 server and was able to utilize my scripts and MQ. One thing I will mention is that I had to connect to the target MQ server from the actually target MQ server - kind of creating a loop to gain access. Doing this through me into an admin session that was currently being used. Could be a securtity concern so be careful not to get yourself in trouble with this method. I also explored the M071 patch and it allowed me to use mqsc commands but ultimately I had to use the VNC connection to run my saveqmgr.exe commands and use the MQExplore. Thanks for the help on this guys I really appreciate it.
