Hi
I've noticed that our implementation of MQ on z/OS does not adjust for daylight savings. Therefore for part of the year MQ messages have a creation time in the MQMD that is an hour out of sync. Is this a configurable option? I've spoken to a sysprog who says that it isn't, but this seems strange to me. I'm based in the UK and all other features on z/OS are correctly configured for this e.g. CICS, DB2 etc.
I'm a developer and this is an irritating feature, particularly for support reasons when looking at the creation time in the MQMD of a message. I've also had more than one instance where I've wanted to use the MQMD creation time in an application but avoided it for this reason.
We're running WSMQ 5.3 on z/OS 1.4. |

It does not adjust for daylight saving time (DST), because it does not need to. MQSeries timestamps are always GMT. DST is not an issue.
Only your local time changes relative to GMT, if you are in a location that observes DST. Since you're in the UK, you must be in the same time zone as Greenwich, but go to DST at certain times of year. There are several routines builtin to the mainframe that will convert GMT to local time. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

When we're observing daylight savings, CICS time (e.g. EIBTIME) and DB2 time (e.g. CURRENT TIMESTAMP) also observe them and are consistent with local times. However MQ does not... |

Read my post again. All MQSeries timestamps are GMT. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

Sorry, yes I see that but I don't understand the "not an issue" part. If your local time is not GMT then other products on z/OS such as CICS or DB2 will observe the daylight savings and adjust their time zones accordingly. Therefore the timestamps displayed in the MQMD are out of sync with everything else during these times.
Sorry if I seem confused but I am |

Your confusion is due to the fact that you happen to live in the timezone where GMT is. For you, MQ appears like it has local time stamps for half of the year. That is only because of where you are. For the rest of us, the MQSeries timestamps never match local time of the machine.
As I said earlier, you need to convert MQ timestamps to local time always! There are different routines for different languages that will convert local time to GMT and vice-versa. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

Okay, got it!! So this is indeed a common theme, and can't be reconfigured.
Thanks for your patience! |
