Hi all,

I have a few question unclairified in the process of migration from MQSI 2.1 to WMB 6. It would be greatly appreciated if someone responds back with their expretise. We currently have MQSI 2.1 on AIX. Planning to build a parallel env and then migrate and keep BOTH 2.1 and 6 running for a short period of time.(which includes broker 2.1 & 6, configmgr 2.1 & 6)

a) Can I create a v6 broker with same name as 2.1 broker on the same machine, both running at the same time for say 2-3 weeks?
b) Can I have both 2.1 configmgr on windows and v 6 configmgr on AIX both up and running, accessing thier respective brokers? Or do I need to stop the 2.1 configmgr?

I did go through the document, but was not clear enough on these 2 questions. Any additional advices are welcome.

a. I think it is not possible
b. Should be OK to do because they are all different so shouldn't be a problem

You can coexist any components of v2.1 and v6 that you want.

You can't have two components (regardless of version) with the same name on the same machine.

So you CAN put a 2.1 broker on the same machine as a v6 broker, but they MUST have different names. The same with ConfigMgrs.

You also can only share a queue manager between ONE broker and ONE ConfigMgr. You can't share a queue manager between a 2.1 broker and a v6 broker.

I have one other question in this migration context(related to MQ, not WMB though).
We are also planning to upgrade from MQ 5.3 to MQ 6.0. Do we HAVE to shutdown the MQ Series processes in order to uninstall and reinstall the latest verion of MQ? I am just concerned of the production, where in we might be at risk if we stop and start the queue managers and MQ Series as a whole.
