Hi all,
I am setting up a MQ environment both on WIN2K and Himalayas Servers.
I have a few doubts on MQ client/server configuration on WIN2K.

I understand from the manuals that you can set up a server connection channel on a QManager and a client connection on another machine via the MQSERVER variable.

Is this the only way or there are other configurations to connect a MQ client and server ? Could I use the client connection channel on a MQ Server ?

Sorry not to be too clear, but I have just started with this product.
Anyhow thanks to all who will reply.

Regards,
Robert

The MQSeries Clients manual is a must read. Some of it can be pretty difficult but it really is all in there.

When you create a client channel definition on a queue manager, the data associated with that defintiion is written in a file (AMQCHLTAB I believe). On a single queue manager, create all the client channel definitions for your complete MQ environment. When this is done, copy the AMQCHLTAB to your client machine. You then won't need the MQSERVER variable because when a reference to a remote queue manager is made, the client will then contact the remote server using the information in the file.

For more details, please read this section in the MQSeries clients manul.

Another easy way is to use the CONNX verb, which will include all the info (channel name, trptype and conname) in it. Then you don't need anything external to the code (like an env. variable or table file). Keep in mind that even when you use the channel table file you still have to set 2 environment variables (MQCHLLIB and MQCHLTAB).

With MQ 5.2.1 running on a W2K domain you can also store the information in Active Directory, avoiding the distribution of files or setting environment variables. Read the "MQ Series for Windows NT and Windows 2000 - Quick Beginnings - Version 5.2.1" (reference amqtac01).
