Hello gang,

So I'm considering new MQ Engineer position with a different company and since my current company hired me w/o MQ experience and I haven't had any chances to interview while at my current company, what would be some important FAQ that potential interviewers may have for me?

I suppose for those here that have interviewed, what are some of your typical questions for the interviewee?

Thanks,
Lex

Know the stuff you are claiming to be good at.
Be Natural. Don't try to pretend.
Tell them the truth on what you want to achieve. Don't just say what you think they want to hear.

That's all about it.

Hope that the interviewer doesn't read or post here frequently enough to see that you're asking for help...

Nothing wrong about asking for help... It at least shows me that he does care. And he didn't ask for technical questions to 'cheat' on any technical questions

Jeff,

Well I did consider this and tried not to unveil any unnessary information; however, to Sebastian's point...very true...I'm just striking a conversation just as I would meeting in real-life. I'm certainly sticking to what I know and share my experiences both positive and negative. I appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks,
Lex

btw...is the maxmsglength for 5.x 100mb and for 6.0 unlimited? I'm trying to also recal the default msglength for 5.2 and 5.3...isn't it 4mb?

So much depends on the interviewer.....

I have had interviews where I was simply asked to describe my middleware experience with examples of difficult projects or problems on which I had worked.

But then I've also been interviewed by a panel of techies who asked the most outrageous detailed questions. Like, "what is the API call to make MQ start your car in the morning?"

When I have been asked to write interview questions, I like to include a little of both. I like the candidate to tell me about a tricky business requirement & how it was satisfied, and to tell about a really tough troubleshooting problem & its solution.

Then I like to also ask some very basic questions, like "what are some reasons a channel might be in retry?" or "why would you choose linear over circular logs?". There are many many topics from which to choose. These are basic, sure, but it quickly weeds out people who are only pretending to know MQ.

Good luck on your interview!

Shirley

Well Ms. Fraser,

I must tell you that I was once a young lad with no MQ experience...then one day about 4.5 years ago, I ended up in Austin. I had a lady aka "Doco Wizzard" school me really quick and was certainly very good at doing so

Please read your PM.
