OK I reckon it doesnt really matter but I have been wondering lately what the maximum number of Queue managers is that can be displayed in the Explorer GUI
Reason I am asking is that the client will have 250+ remote queue managers and upto 10 local and I was wondering if I should create sepate Explorer views for areas of the country etc etc or just have them all in 1 view.
Basically what are peoples views or ideas. Personally If the gui can handle it I dont mind having all 250+ managers in one view but I am thinking of the customer and refresh times etc etc
Thanks guys |

I'd certainly go with different views even if MQExplorer can handle all of the queue managers (which I can't imagine to be a problem).
It's just a matter of overview to kinda seperate them. Just imagine you are looking for queue manager 237 of 500. And just imagine they stick to a naming convention which causes all queue manager names to look the same.
But than that's just my 2 cents |

I guess with that many queue managers, I'd manage them with something other than MQ Explorer. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

sebastian I agree and all the queue managers are in a strict naming convention and they are very similar

I suspect I may split them out by region |

I might tend to stick them all into one view and show the client, and then suggest that they might get some value out of buying a real management tool...
Otherwise, I agree with your own thoughts and sebastianhirt's. Smaller is better. Start with different views for dev, test, prod.
And don't set all the queue managers to autoreconnect, and set the refresh time to like five minutes. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Wait. I *am* up early today...
Are you using the Windows v5.3 mmc Explorer? never mind about autoreconnect and refresh times, then. I was thinking of the v6 eclipse Explorer _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I got ~ 200 QMs in MO71 (the free support pack), all partitioned under logical groups (WB-IMB Brokers, Config Managers, Concentrators, Mainframe, etc) . Haven't opened MQExplorer in over a year. _________________ Peter Potkay
