I did two times , Queue manager started normally but i did not get the required performance... There is no other problem reported either in ../errors or ../qmgrs/<qmgr>/error files

There are partitions with /opt/mqm and /var/mqm/

And please do not forget:
Linear Logs only stay healthy if you have a linear log maintenance support pack (like MS0L) and use it regularly to prune the logs!!

Okay. So it's a bit harder.

Are these on the same disk, or different disks?

Please confirm that you made this change by DELETING and RECREATING the queue manager. It is the only way to make this change.

If you did this, then the problem is almost definitely NOT the MQ queue manager or the MQ Server.

Okay.

Oh, one more thing. Is this a local disk or a network disk?

You should open a PMR.

You should follow the instructions in the system administration guide or the Solaris quick beginnings guide for enabling MQ tracing.

And you should run some simple programs with the trace enabled, like amqsput followed by amqsget. And maybe use the request/response samples (amsqreq and amqsech) to run something a bit more complicated.

The tracing, with some effort, can be read to see how long each of the MQ calls takes.

You should have your solaris adminstrator help you run TOP or some such utility to watch the CPU utilization, and other performance monitoring tools for watching the memory utilization and etc.

I think it is local disk. I am not sure. Need to check with the unix administrator. Let me know if it is a network disk. is there anything need to look for.

how do i report PMR to IBM as i am not very familier with the process?

As far as I know, you need to have a contract for support. and you(your organization) will have an account ID/password to login to IBM support site. Depending upon the business impact, you will select the severity. you may wish to check with your management(who-ever drafted the license/contract agreements) for these details

If it is a network disk, then the remote side or the network could be causing a slowdown.

I do not see much differences... Do you think any other factors.

Same program is working fine in other low end machine

So that's a subsecond response time.

What, exactly is performing poorly?

This shows the server side of an MQPUT taking approximately 18 milliseconds. At this rate you will only get 1 / 0.018 = 55 per second.

The next job is to take a look at what is happening during this 18 ms on the server side.

Jeff,
The same put program is giving better performance in other environment in the same network.

That machine has the following configuration:
Sun 1 x 500MHz , solaris 5.8 with patches 117000_03, 1GB ram, 2 x 40GB hard drive and MQ5.3 with CSD 4.
This machine takes 4 seconds to put 1500 messages

The machine which is performing low has
Fijitsu 2 x 1980 MHz, Solaris 5.8 with patches 117350_26, 2GB ram, 2 x 80 GB hard drive and MQ 5.3 with CSD 12
This machines takes 12 seconds to put 1500 messages. I expect here better performance

Open a PMR.

Verify that the disk is working properly.

Verify that there is not an excessive CPU utilization.

In the trace you posted, a put took 18 ms. If every put took this time, then for 1500 messages this would take a total of 1500 * 0.018 = 27 seconds.

Maybe the trace you posted is for a put that took an unusually long time. In other words, maybe puts are usually taking much less time than this.

What is the output from
Code:
grep " poll" tracefile.FMT

The next step is to find out what is happening on the server.
