Hello, I am currently upgrading our Solaris 8 MQ Installations to Version 6.

Some points in the kernel configuration described on page 14 in http://publibfp.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/amqdac08.pdf are not really clear to me. Could may somebody give some clarification?

Quote:
Kernel Configuration
....
Values for Solaris 9
set shmsys:....
....

Additional values for Solaris 8
set shmsys:....
....

Does this mean we need to set all the parameters Solaris 8 and 9 since we are using Solaris 8?

Quote:
System Resource Limits
....
unlimit -d unlimited
unlimit -s unlimited

This changes the values only for the current shell. Does this mean this is only needed for the installation procedure?

Quote:
File descriptors
Solaris has a low default system soft limit for the number of file descriptors. When running a multi-threaded process, ...

What kind of multi-threaded processes are meant here? Is it really needed to change these settings?

Thanks for any kind of help!

I am not 100% certain but I doubt it. It would seem to make sence that these settings need to be permanant.

You need to do this if you will be running multi-threaded applications that use the services of the queue manager.
