Hi all,

I'm trying to install MQ v6 and MQ Explorer (MQSeriesConfig and MQSeriesIES30) on Red Hat Linux AS 4 but I can't.
When I installed MQSeriesIES30 package, I got an error, which said something like 'needed Mozilla 1.4.3'.

As you know, the default browser of Red Hat v4 is Firefox.
I read documentaions again and again but there were no information about the prerequisites of MQ Explorer on Linux v4.

Are there product limitations?
Does it really require Mozilla on Linux v4?

Please help!

Thanks in advance.

The package's requirements are:
gtk2 >= 2.2.4-0
mozilla >= 1.4.3
/bin/sh

Mozilla is there for the online help. I would guess you could hack the online help to use firefox instead (I've never tried), but you can force the install via --nodeps.

PS...RHAS isn't one of the supported Linux's:

Quote:
Linux x86 platform

* Operating system
o Red Hat Enterprise Linux V3.0 (with Update 2)
o SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) 8 (with Service Pack 3) or SLES 9

Thank you very much for your help, wschutz.

I understand that MQ Information Center requires Mozila as a prerequisite because it's clearly documented.
However, about MQ Explorer including IES, there are poor information...

I'd like to know about the prerequisites of WebSphere Eclipse Platform on Linux v4 as official spec.
Actually I'm asking it to IBM but its response is still not comming...

Anyway, in my understanding, what you are saying are;
1. To use MQ Information Center, it requires Mozila.
2. I may hack the Information Center if I only need to use MQ Explorer on Linux v4 with Firefox.
3. It may be possible to use both MQ Information Center and MQ Explorer if Mozila and Firefox coexists.

Is that correct?

Thanks.

Actually, imho, the best thing to do would be to install mozilla. It easily co-exists with firefox.

but again, rhas isn't a supportped platform at all.

I don't think so.
See the following link.
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=171&uid=swg27006270
It says supported OS are
Quote:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) V3.0 with Update 2 or later update
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) V4.0 or later update
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) V8 with Service Pack (SP) 3
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) V9
NLPOS9 FP1
IRES V2
Red Flag Data Centre V5.0

and Notes 5 says
Quote:
The 'MQ Explorer' tooling is supported on the following Linux(x86) environments: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server V3.0 (Update 2); Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server V4.0; and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) 9.

Fair enough, I was assuming that you were installing the mq server as well...

In my understanding so far, MQ Explorer(MQSeriesConfig) has a dependency on WebSphere Eclipse Platform(MQSeriesIES30) and the Eclipse has another dependency on Mozilla.
On the other hand, MQ Information Center also has a dependency on Mozilla.
Thus I guess Firefox is not supported by MQv6 on RHLE4.
(On my Linux, there is only Firefox and no Mozilla.)

But what I can't understand is the dependency between MQ Explorer and browsers such as Firefox and Mozilla...

This is the error message I got
Quote:
error: Failed dependencies:
mozilla >= 1.4.3 is needed by MQSeriesIES30-6.0.0-0.i386

BTW, is it possible to use Firefox instead of Mozilla? (Is Mozilla must??)
In other words, can I install MQ Explorer and Eclipse Platform without Mozilla on RHELv4? (rpm --nodeps option??)

Since it's not documented, I can't force my client to install Mozilla package on their system..

Regards,

so pointing at the dependency failure message that you get when you try to install the package doesn't count?

Thank you very much for your help, wschuz.

The background is that we prepared our Linux boxes with Firefox, not Mozilla because we didn't need Mozilla and in terms of MQ we only needed MQ Explorer not MQ Information Center.

If we had planned to use MQ Information Center, there would not be such a prerequisite problem as the Information Center requires Mozilla installed.

Anyway, now I need an official reason to force my client to install Mozilla package, if it is really needed by MQ Explorer.
However, nobody knows about this including IBM guys!!
(Frankly, I'd like IBM to say something like 'Yes, Mozilla package is must to use MQ Explorer on RHELv4 and please install it. There is no problem of the co-existence of Mozilla and Firefox.', which is not difficult to say I think...)

I think the choices I currenty have are;
1. To force my client to install Mozilla to complete the installation of MQ Explorer. (The moderate reason or official spec is required to proceed this)
2. To install IES(Eclipse) with '--nodeps option' of rpm. But in this case, I should be careful about that MQ Explorer does work, but MQ Information Center. (I've never tried it but I believe so.)
3. To give up the installation on Linux and try it on Windows environment.
(In this case, we need to make an environmental plan again.)

Have you considered creating a symlink to firefox named "mozilla"?

Thank you very much for your help, all.

As a result of this, we unwillingly installed Mozilla module onto our Linux boxes and then MQ Explorer is working now.

I believe the documentations have to be carefully written!

There is still not official reason of the necessity of Mozilla package.

Anyway, thank you again for your help.

Regards,
