Is it part of your job description to answer questions here? Or are any and all answers form IBM purely by IBM people who come here on their own?

Are you sure such hypothetical IBMers would be allowed to answer you?

sure, y not. I can't beleive if its part of their responsabilities there would be a problem saying so. And if they do it on their own why would IBM care?

What I am really wondering is does IBM recognize the actual benifit of this site? How many calls to their support center must be eliminated? How much better does MQ and WB-IMB look as a whole to the business community because its more stable because its configured better because of our help and IBMers help, be it on their own time or as part of their official job description?

What I'm really really wondering is, what if the top 10 or 20 posters just stopped for 3 months? Would the rates for capable, real, MQ admins rise? The amount of free help is substantial, for the aspiring beginner, to the seasoned admin, to numnutz who should pat themselves on the back because they found the Post New Subject button.

I'll let the others answer for themselves - for myself - its not part of my job description. .. but I am involved in pre-sales technical support .. and I certainly see mqseries.net as a valuable source of information and will recommend it when I talk to customers.

I used to have a job where I answered questions from IBMers ... and there were times that I wished I could have been as direct as some of the answers I see here.

Cheers
Bill

Because they're supposed to be working, not spending time on this new fangled internet thingy. Taking a sly look over my shoulder.

Cheers,

Having always (since 1993) consider myself an MQ evangelist, helping people use the products is a natural thing for me to do (and not in my job description).

EDIT: Actually, keeping active here helps me to keep my MQ/Broker skills honed....

Like the others participation here, on the Vienna list server, and even on IBM's own news groups at news.software.ibm.com is not part of my job description.

I certainly don't have time to read every post and only attempt to answer those where I know the answer or can find it quickly. I participate to learn how the products are used in the real world and to help where I can.

Since IBMers take part in their spare time you should never expect to receive a definitive (or indeed any) response to a question from IBM on these forums. They are not a substitute for the official support mechanisms.

In all cases it's a detail from IBMers to collaborate in this page. Thank you

I've often wondered this myself. Your point is well taken.

Whilst not all of us work for IBM we all benefit from input from this site whther solving problems or finding out something new

Suspect that similar applications with similar products are asking the same question about employees from that company

Hi guys,

IBM has tons of internal resources and forums whereby we can get our MQ/MB/Workflow etc problems solved internally within IBMers...but I find myself and many others here...and I do suggest this site to all the freshers I meet...

Its not part of the role, but atleast I get to learn a lot (especially in the starting days)...and I doubt IBM has a problem...but we are watched ofcourse, by someone

Regards.

When I worked for IBM and the internet was not used we had tools like Hone and listservers. I always contributed to the boards technically to anyone who was seeking information. There were instances where I was assigned to products that were not announced and I would get people fisihing...

I think in the OLD IBM tradition knowledge is a TOOL and they used to openly share it! But $$$ and services revenue has gotten in the way. So free boards like this excellent board is where I have learned lot's about MQ and I am willing to share if I can add anything that may help!

Yeah there is still a liitle blue coursing through my veins! Had lot's a fun met a great group of people and we all kinda got killed in the same year! Twas a shame!

Appending isn't part of my job description, but getting my customers up and running with WMQ is. And I'm also selfish in that the more people that get helped, then the more people using the product.

Besides, what else would I do at home in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.....
