Yeah, I know. I'm not trying to hassle or anything... I just don't know of a case where it's not 100, off the top of my head.

So I'm curious.

We run 5.3.1 on Zos with CAF and up to 200 + client connections.
Our max active was set up to 500 + as most of the stations hold at least 2 connections. One for the person working at the station + 1 for a program running at the station.

Enjoy

The number of SYSTEM.DEF.SVRCONN channels RUNNING is around 500 in production. I haven't set the MAXCHANNEL and MAXACTIVECHANNEL attirbutes in the queue manager.

What is the max limit that one can set for the above attributes.

Also, what is the ratio of MAXCHANNEL to MAXACTIVECHANNEL.

Don't know as the MainFrame aspects are being handled by our service provider...

However I believe it is a bad practice to have everybody connect through the SYSTEM.DEF.SVRCONN channel. You should at least distingish the channels by application. This way if you have a problem after upgrade or a selective net glitch you can force off the specific application by stopping their channel mode(force) without impacting the other well behaved ones...

Enjoy

You'll never get an hard answer. It depends. I have researched this, trying to get IBM to commit to a hard number. They won't. It depends more on the hardware. You'll hit hardware limits before you hit any MQ internal limits appareantly. I have QMs with 2500 channels running (lots of clients). The Performance Support Packs talk of 12,000 channels in some cases.

Doesn't matter. You may only want 100 channels defined ever, but allow up to 2000 instances at anyone time, so MAXCHANNEL=100 and MAXACTIVECHANNEL=2000. Or, you may want to have 1000 different channels defined, but for some reason only allow 50 to run at a time, so MAXCHANNEL=1000 and MAXACTIVECHANNEL=50.
Usually though, Max Active Channels is larger than Max Channels.
