I've downloaded the U806953.tar.Z - Message Broker V6.0 Fix Pack 01 for AIX. The enclosed documentation says - If you have an existing Version 6.0.0.0 installation, you can upgrade it to Version 6.0.0.1.
When I run the setupaix wizard and select the location of vanilla 6 i.e. /opt/IBM/mqsi/6.0 the wizard kindly tells me that there is a version already installed in that location and that I should install in another location which I did. This seems to be a new install in coexistence rather than an upgrade or am I missing something? – Somewhere in the documentation it mentions that I should be able to install ‘over-the-top’ – how? |

I'd expect that the upgrade process warn you that the location isn't empty, and ask you whether you want to continue. It shouldn't prevent you from installing in that location. (If it does, please raise a PMR.)

Well looks like it's going to be a PMR then. I'll try another server first though.
This is the message when I try the same location.
"The chosen location is already associated with another installed product. Choose an alternative install location."
WMB6.0 is the only application in that location - surely the wizard has enough magic to realise that's what it should update. |

You are running the installer as root, right? Or at least from sudo? _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Definitely as root – tried as wmqiadm directly after I had the first objection about the location and was informed that only root can run the update. |
