90% of the spam I'm deleting is by "people" who are not signing up. Can you shut off the ability to post unless you become a member? _________________ Peter Potkay

This online pharmacy guy seems persistent.
I have reported this incident to the ISP of one of his links (drugname.net). _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Newest move? A guest posts some moronic response like:
Great!
and then bury a link in the smiley face. I delete those as well.
This weekend, I've deleted about 25 Guest posts.
I wonder why they stick exclusively with the Jobs and Capitalware forums? _________________ Peter Potkay

Must be a new tactic. A few weeks ago all the BOT Spam was hitting the General Discussion forum. I have no idea how many IP's Brandon locked out before it started dropping off. _________________ Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

I didn't realize this was such a problem - you guys were doing such a good job nuking the spam before I even saw it!
The only reason I allowed blind posting in those forums was I felt that I should keep the bar really low for employers/recruiters to make job-related postings - because they might not bother if they had to register. And as for the capitalware forum, I didn't want to dictate to Roger who could post in there.
But clearly it has been abused, so I set the permissions on those forums like the others.
So in the future, if you see someone posting as a guest, let me know, because that means something is broken... _________________ Brandon Duncan

Hi Brandon,
So, no more "Guest" for the Capitalware forum?? Thank you. Lately, the spam has gone wild and it has been really annoying.
Regards,

Hi guys,
I think blocking the Guests from the Job Postings and Job seekers will effect us....
I feel atlesat the Job Postings for the time being should not be blocked as then no one will want to take the burden of registering....
Can't there be any other solution.....dosen't a filter on words work ??(not a J2EE guy )
Regards. |

I understand your concern, that's why the job forums were open in the first place. But our choices in dealing with the spam are pretty limited. You mention using a filter. But who's going to write/maintain the dictionary? As soon as you ban "viagra" they'll start using "via-gra" or "v1agra" and on and on.
And I've banned hundreds of IP addresses and what seems like half the email addresses in Russia, but it just doesn't stop them... At least making the bar as high as possible will convince them to move on to easier targets - and there are many! _________________ Brandon Duncan

If you need/want a job, and can't be bothered to take 60 seconds to reg, then your are laaaazzzyyyy, and I wouldn't want to hire you, or work for you. _________________ Peter Potkay

I thought I was talking about the JOB POSTINGS...and i'm not an employer...
I understand if you want a job, then register....
But is it sensible to say, I won't work for you since you did not put this job offer on mqseries.net and that means that

If someone who want to post a job can't be bothered to spend 60 seconds registering, then my immediate thought was "is there a job there really" or is it a recruitment agency just trying to get applicants details in to increase "people on the books" counts so that employers will register their job with the agency? _________________ Regards

Thanks Brandon...no spam in the past few days (that I know of), down from finding some to delete every day. _________________ Peter Potkay

Hi,
there are also some kind of bots running which create
lots of users with spam in their website url
Examples:
User / Location
2Rulez52322 / Mongolia
2Rulez45190 / Mongolia
...
Ysdfs4ed / New York
MssdYsdfx / New York
...
Can we somehow get rid of these too ?
Greetings
Frank |
