Hi,
Does anyone know if its possible to install just the MQ Explorer GUI on a workstation rather than installing the entire server product.
My users want to admin. MQ remotely but don't need all the server functionality.
Thanks

Hi,
I didn't think Client installed the Mq explorer GUI and I thought it required the MQ series service to be running also.

Hi BBM,
The client will have the MQ Explorer and will have the MQ Jars.
Service will have to run....you cannot avoid these....or else use MQJExplorer.....its not WebSphere MQ

You can install the Explorer stand alone on a Windows or Linux machine for remote admin of another server install. (Assuming you are talking about the V6 Explorer)
On windows insert the install CD
Install the Eclipse pre-req from the launchpad
Launch the installer
Select a custom install
Only select the MQ Explorer component from the list.
Once done, launch the explorer, connect remote queue managers
No need for any services running, and no need for the client to also be installed on the machine, the Explorer contains all it needs to talk to remote queue managers. _________________ --

Hi,
Just installed the Windows client, MQ Explorer MMC does not come with it. And copying it in does not work either.

Ah, the MMC explorer.
This is not installable on a client machine, you have to have a server intall to use the 5.3 MMC Explorer. _________________ --

Not entirely sure what you mean by "is the above statement valid?" _________________ --

I think we're established that he's using V5 of MQ, not V6:

Hi,
Many thanks for the replies. Yes I am on 5.3 CSD 11. Apologies for not making that clear.
We have decided to set up a kiosk PC which has a copy of MQ server on it, and users can remote in and use that to in turn remotely connect to queue managers.
This is to stop people users having NT admin rights over the server to administrate MQ.
Thanks again..

Don't know for sure on windows but I believe you have to be part of both the admin and the mqm group to administer MQ. On Unix/Linux I believe it is enough to be part of the mqm group.

Hi,
You don't need to be a member of the NT admin group in windows to admin MQ. In fact for our purposes our users aren't even in the MQM group.
I have added them to a custom group we created to confer just enough rights to do exactly what they need without full admin rights.
