I supose a version 5.3 Client does work with a version 6 Server ...

The client and the server (indeed, all channels) are still able to talk "old" levels of the MQ wire protocol. During first connect, the client negotiates with the server, and they agree on the highest mutually supported level of the wire protocol. Therefore v5.3 clients can work with a v6 queue manager, but you won't have access to any new features that have gone into the v6 client. Equally, a v6 client can work with a v5.3 queue manager, but you won't have access to new features - this would require a v6-v6 pairing. |
