doc says that message broker toolkit V6 is based on RAD. what does this mean?

do i have to worry about different versions of RAD? also what about different versions of eclipse for different development tools, any best practices to maintain these?

is there an advantage of using rational product updater for maintenance upgrades?

Here's the version issue between RAD and the Toolkit

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=849&context=SSKM8N&dc=DB520&dc=D600&dc=DB530&dc=D430&dc=D410&dc=D700&dc=DB500&dc=DB540&dc=D420&dc=D400&dc=DB510&dc=DB550&q1=rad+version&uid=swg21223268&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&lang=en

You need to make a decision on what to do. I have the same issue.

I think some of this is fixed with the latest RP of Toolkit.

If you have access to software downloads from IBM, the e-assembly for Broker Toolkit has been updated to the latest RP of Toolkit. You can try downloading that instead of installing from your media.

If you have already installed Toolkit and RP'd it, and are trying to install RAD afterwards with a previous version of RPU/RAD... you have to either get an updated e-image of RAD or uninstall Toolkit, install and fixpack RAD (preferabbly using RPU) and then reinstall Toolkit.

I've got RAD on the machine and can't get on toolkit. So, in my case, I should just download the latest v6 toolkit from Passport advantage and try that?

Yep.

I can't guarantee it will work. But it *should* work.

Also, make sure that RAD and RUP have been updated to the latest.

Opened case with IBM. They suggested that updating RAD to v 1.0.1.1 to fix the issue. This will allow the toolkit to be installed on the same machine without the version issue. You should install the toolkit fix pack 1.0.0.1 also. I'll be testing this out shortly.
