Hi,
I had raised a PMR with IBM regarding the functioning of RAC on solaris.
Since RAC opens a random port on the toolkit machine for communication, if there is a firewall between the broker and toolkit, then the firewall should be configured for all the ports for this communication.
I've got a mail from IBM PMR team stating that there is no workaround or fixpack for this issue for RAC ver 5.0.1.2.
The mail also states that this problem has been overcome in RAC Ver6.0.1.
Any thoughts on this.
Thanks |

You can't use the newer version of RAC until you upgrade the version of Broker you're using.
Presumably, you aren't running RAC on a production machine, so it should be more acceptable to have a wider access from development/test machines.
There are other ways to debug flows than using RAC.
So, I think your choices are to see if you can get IBM to code a fix to RAC 5.01.2 to meet your requirements... or live with what you've got.
It is a fairly typical pattern in network communications, though, where a client opens up a well known port to a server, and then the server opens a random port back to the client for data. FTP works this way, with port 21 being a control port and some other port being the data port. In "Passive" FTP, the client opens up a port first, and tells the server to connect to that port instead of letting the server open the port. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |
