The CPU Fan in my IBM T30 Thinkpad laptop started making grinding noises so I decided to take it out and clean it.

It only took about an hour to find the Technical Manuals on First IBM's website then Lenova's.

<sighs>
So after removing the Main Battery, the CDROM, the Hardisk, the backup battery, the DIMM's, and the Keyboard I finally got to the Fan and Heatsink assembly. I had parts scattered all over my office. The whole time I'm thinking, I'll just be lucky if the thing boots back up when I'm done.

Well I pulled the fan out and wrote down the part number and cleaned it well as I could with canned air.

I managed to put all the different sized screws back in the right holes and booted it up. Then I hit the power button and my heart sank when it started beeping.

Fortunately while browsing the manual I down loaded I saw a section devoted to "Beep Symptoms" so I powered it down again. Powered it back up and listened to the beeps. <1 short beep - pause - 3 short beeps - pause - 3 more short beeps - pause - 1 short beep. Means something is wrong with the DIMM's. So back into the guts of this thing I go, re-seat the DIMM's and everything is fine now except the fan bearings are still making a lot of noise.

The replacement should be here by tomorrow. $45 for the fan $50 for next day shipping.

But when the replacement arrives I will be better practiced at stripping this thing down.

And here's the kicker. Most sites say that if you place your order before 1300 the product will arrive the next day so I'm expecting to see my new fan on Friday (the 13th) or at the latest Monday. I clicked the "Submit Button" on my order at 12:39 MST.

So about 4 hours later I get this notice from FedEx that says my parcel was shipped 01/12/06 and the estimated arrival is 01/17/06. That's five days .

Fuck me, I'm tied bare ass naked to a pole in a park in San Francisco on Saturday Night. No lubricant, no reach around no kiss.

Apparently I missed the deadline for real next day shipping so my CPU Fan aint gonna show up on Friday the 13th. Nor will it show up on Saturday the 14th, Sunday the 15th or Monday the 16th because apparently FedEx doesn't work on Columbus/Martin Luther King Day.

So the just of the matter is I just paid $50 for 5 day shipping for a $45 dollar fucking fan.

I thought I was doing so well.

Are you going to pay the 50$? To be honest, I would try to challenge it.
