Can file system (/var/mqm) be shared in MQ Cluster from different machines. I am thinking it is "NO" but want to be sure. Does any one came across this issue ? Please share your experience, Thanks

Only in a HACMP environment (i.e. Hardware clustering)

Enjoy

What will happen if you mount the same /var/mqm file system on both the systems ?

No, I haven't tried yet. I am in Planning/designing stage. I am trying to find which route to take if I have an option,

You cannot mount /var/mqm or for that reason any FS on both systems at same time.

You can create two shared FS one mounted on Each system at a time, and if there is a failure it can be moved to the other ,

You can have NFS File System from contact admin Storage mounted on both systems simutaneously.

humm...I didn't think we allowed the /var/mqm/log directory to be an NFS mount

Right, and the results from sharing a single qmgr's data over two running instances of the qmgr are not worth thinking about. Data corruption would probably occur immediately.

HACMP / failover methods only work if there is guaranteed to be only one running instance of a queue manager using the same queue manager's data in /var/mqm.

MSCS clustering with shared (SAN) disks works fine as well.

A given queue manager should be active/passive, but there is no reason why you can't have a different queue manager active on the other side of the cluster.

The shared file system can be online to both sides of the cluster at the same time, but of course a given queue manager must run on one side or the other.

Create a seperate mount point for each QM, eg /MQHA/<QMgr Name>/data. Then create a softlink from the local directory /var/mqm/qmgrs/<Qmgr Name> to the shared directory.

This is a much cleaner approach.

Take a look at Support Pack MC6A for more information.
