Hi

I am new to this forum and new to ics but I am involved in it. Looking in to the past discussion, it seems, this forum allows or encourage only guru ( expert)

Can some one shed light on about this

I would not say that this forum (mqseries.net) only allows or encourages gurus (experts) in MQ related topics.

You may be referring to the sometimes short responses you see to questions. While they may look like interesting and reasonable questions, what regular users of this forum get upset about is when people put their questions on this forums without appearing to search the manuals, or this forum for an answer before asking their question.

For example, if you were to ask the question "how to I put a message on a queue", you would be met with only flame-type responses such as "read the (insert any rude word here) manual!"

This kind of information is readily available in the IBM manuals, via IBM samples provided with the product, and many examples can be found by searching this forum, and the internet in general.

You would be suprised at the number of people, who seem to have been told to use this new technology and then expect to be able to ask the most basic of questions (i.e. how do I use this product). Stereotypically it will be outsourcing/software house/resource shop companies who are looking to get a foot in the door of a company and have told a couple of their guys "this company we want to turn into a cash gravy train uses MQ alot so go learn about MQ so we can pretend we can support their use of MQ and get business out of them".

For what its worth, go ahead and ask your question after you have exhausted your search for the answer, and you may well get a quick and accurate response.

If your question is about ICS or adapters in particular, I can't help because what I know about those products you could probably fit on the back of a postage stamp...

Thank you for the elaboration. what seems interesting, if some one can do, is compilation of the previous questions and answer in the format of FAQ. that wlould be helpful to refer to other also.

If you don't think that this or this have useful questions, then why don't you make a posting with what you think are useful questions, and we'll see if we can answer them.

But make sure that they are clear questions and are not directly answered by the manuals.

Even if there was a FAQ of useful questions, I imagine that the same people that don't know how to use a search button wouldn't know to go look in the FAQ area.

Sorry guys,

I mean technical questions. The FAQ about the forum is great but what is an FAQ is prepared for technical questions so that if someone ask basic questions or questions that has been already answered, then can be referred to this forum.

Newbie10 - maybe you should try suggesting a few "technical" questions you think should appear somewhere...

(Hint - try searching the FAQs before suggesting and I'll bet you could find them already answered).

I absolutely agree. If the existing FAQs of technical questions are missing something, then we should try and fix that - so that newbies who spend at least *a little* effort will get help *quickly*. (also, you got his/her name wrong. it's "amature10", not "newbie10".)

Ho ho ho. My comment was showing my "I new this was going to happen" prediction when I initially suggested that regular posters on this site give short shrift to often asked questions from newbies. It was not directed at you in any way (step away from that flame thrower - I can see you reaching for it... ) I am sure I will be torching a few newbies myself long before I've reached the number of posts you and other grand masters have.

amateur10/amature10/newbie10/anyothernewbiewhoisreadingthis - We know that you are all in a rush to get the answer you want and asking a basic question might seem like the easiest thing to do, but you must remember that posters here do this out of community spirit - they don't get paid to post replies and some have spent alot of time building FAQs and sticky posts etc to help newbies along.

Perhaps we should ask for a mod to the site so that you can't post until you have visited certain threads/posts. That way new people have to visit FAQs threads etc before being allowed to posting their question...

Then again, all that might change is that they get a "didn't you read the FAQs???" rather than "go read the FAQs!!!" Ho hum.

Hm. I must say, I had gotten the feeling that no one was interested in my little TT project - so many had hailed the idea at the onset, so few actually volunteered later on. Those few TTs that exist are not getting any new posts, although possibly I had filled them with such technical wonders no one dares approach (these threads have very low "view" rates)

I had pretty much stopped developing my precious TTs, due to lack of time (the academic year just started) and lack of response - should I renew my efforts?
Possibly a new approach (to the new approach) is in order - i'll open up empty TTs and see if anyone posts; maybe that'll be a better way to go about it. Or maybe I had opened up the wrong topics to begin with.

Would appreciate useful comments.

I think having pages that contain links to other pages on a similar subject (e.g. WMQ Triggering) is in principle a good idea.

I have to say (at the risk of being treated like a newbie ) that I had trouble finding the TTs. It's not something that a newbie would know to look for.

Doing a search for "TT" and "TT AND project" did not find any results for me. I eventually found it under Links from the main forum page list. Maybe they would be better under the MQSeries FAQ forums instead?

Also, newbies may get confused when they click on the FAQ link at the top of evey page next to Search, Memberlist, Usergroups etc. At this point they get a FAQ about the phpBB2 board, and not FAQ about the MQ family. Perhaps this FAQ link should enable you to look at either phpBB2 FAQs and Topic Thread FAQs.

It might help to move the MQSeries FAQ forum to the top of the page, rather than the bottom of the page.
