We use workflow with some fat client applications (with gui) and some excel spreadsheets. Now I have heard that in the future no PEA and ActiveX API will be available.
Therefore my question. What is the solution to start user attended fat clients and ms office applications? _________________ Ruedi Keller

Ruedi,
very interesing topic, that cannot be answered in general.
You probably know the BestPractises documentation for MQWF.
This guide helps to ease migration to WebSphere process server.
If this is what you mean with future then yes, you should not use PEA, ActiveX and you should not use a fat client.
If you focus on MQWF only, my very high level directives would be as follows (without knowing your specific environment in deatil):
Do not use the MQWF ActiveX API. Its further development has been stopped at one point in the past.
Use Java and the MQWF Java API to implement a fat client.
Use the Checkout() and Checkin() MQWF APIs and your own MS office application invokation in your fat client. Note, that this is basically your own PEA implementation.
Would be interesting to hear your progress. |
