Hi All,
I would like to say a very big thank you to everyone who has purchased MQ Visual Edit and to those who have helped me with the support MQ Visual Edit. Yesterday, the 1000th (one thousandth) license for MQ Visual Edit was sold. In just less than 2 years, MQ Visual Edit has attained what I consider a very respectable goal.
A little over three years ago, while at a client site, I found that I did not have a 'message editor', a necessary tool. As you know, this frequently occurs when you are on a consulting assignment. So, I decided that it was time that I created one for my tool-chest. Several colleagues said they needed one too, which lead to the thought that maybe I had a useful product and so I created a beta program for MQ Visual Edit. After many, many beta rounds, I decided that it was ready for primetime and I launched MQ Visual Edit v1.0 on November 1st, 2003.
The last 2 years have been an interesting ride: new product development, customer support, a vendor at T&M Conference, etc… For those who know me, you must see humor in the customer support aspect. (i.e. bull in a china shop. ) Capitalware has had an interesting metamorphosis in the last 2 years from a 100% services company to a company that is equally divided between services and product sales. Amazingly, I am up to 5 commercial products for MQ.
Now to the future: what do I have planned for Capitalware?
1) Certify all products for MQ v6.0 (a little slowed because of a problem with a new AIX server)
2) New enhancements for MQ Visual Edit. I am rewriting MQVE's interval message handling so that it will be extensible (a little unplanned but hey). This will allow MQVE to manipulate any MQ message type (i.e. RFH2 creation). The extensible messaging framework will lead to some interesting future enhancements. Yes, I am adding a couple of new features for this release of MQVE.
3) Finish porting / testing of the security products (MQSSX & MQAUSX) for z/OS and zLinux.
4) For the very end of the year, I would like to release a beta version of a new product. I have written 3.5 components of the 5 that I would like to see. I have them running stand-alone but I need to wrap them in a framework. It is not another message editor or monitoring tool or configuration tool, I don't how to slot it: how about a collection of missing tools for MQ. I'll tentatively aim for a Christmas launch date for the free beta.
Now to the very frequently asked questions:
1) Yes. There will be a new release of MQ Visual Edit in this quarter and it will cover almost all of the currently requested features.
2) No. I absolutely have no plans on selling my products or company to another company. I like being my own boss. I like being able to choose what I create and when I create it. This is what I've always wanted, so why would I give it up.
3) I have no plans on creating any n-tier monitoring or configuration tools. My focus is squarely on robust, stand-alone tools that fill MQ niches. I want to (and will) create rich MQ tools and sell them at a reasonable price. If I can be known as the Wal-Mart or Amazon of the MQ space then I will be a happy-camper.
So, onwards and upwards; next stop 10,000 licenses sold for MQ Visual Edit.
Regards,
Roger Lacroix

Many congratulations.
Maybe one day I can convince my company to purchase one instead of having me re-invent wheels. |

Now you're just showing off your vo-cab (droned the vitriol interlocutor, his urbane patois as succinct as ever) |

Sorry but when it's your native langage you're not showing off --- just exercising....
Showing off is when I write English and you believe it's my native langage... |
