So, 2&1/2 years ago or so BIGBANK Lending hires me as a contractor to support MQSeries for the Lending Group because they were not getting acceptable support from the BIGBANK Enterprise MQ Support Group and they were being over charged for what they got.

So I goes to work, I upgrade all the MQServers and Client from 5.3.0.0 to 5.3.0.4. I set up monitoring. I do MQManager Object inventories. I clean up a gank load of old unused objects including scores of Qaliases that point to none existent Base Queue's. BIGBANK Lending hires me as an FTE as the sole person supporting MQ for the BIGBANK Lending group.

Year two I upgrade to 5.3.0.6 I rebuild all the MQManagers increasing the active log sizes. I do an audit on the way the applications are using the MQManagers and reduce the number of SVRCONN Channel instances running in production from 1600 to 900 and put the finishing touches on the most stable MQ Environment the BIGBANK Lending group has had since it was formed.

After 27 months of no real vacation, no real sick time because I am the only MQ Guy, my leadership finally hires a contractor with reasonably sound WMQ skills to act as an occasional backup. Previous to this event when I was sick, I was on call for MQ-Support. When I went on vacation I had to bring my pager, cell phone and Laptop with me because I was on call. Finally I get some backup so I bring the new guy up to speed and, I'm going on a vacation.

Fast forward 3 months to October 2005, it's the seventh re-org this department has gone through since I started working here. My boss is no longer my boss. My new boss is what used to be my bosses boss so I am wondering did I get promoted or did she get demoted. Well now I know.

One day before I leave for my 3 week vacation my new boss schedules a one-on-one to inform me that she has decided that the Lending Group no longer needs it's own MQSupport Staff. When I get back from my vacation the BB Enterprise MQ Support group will be supporting all the MQSeries Servers and Clients for the Lending Group. When I return I have three choices:

A: staying with the Lending Group in the role of doing AIX & Windows Server Builds. This would allow me to continue Telecommuting 99% of the time as I have in the past.

B: Transfer to the BB Enterprise MQ Support group and continue to support WMQ. Two problems with this: A. The lead for this group is not a fan of telecommuting which mean I could only telecommute two days / week. B. As a member of this group my cubicle will have to be moved from my current office that is only 40 miles way (roughly 2&1/2 hours roundtrip in freeway traffic) to the new campus that is 70 miles from my home (or at the very least 4 hour round trip in rush hour freeway traffic).

C. Fuck off and die.

While I was still on the phone her, I was touching up my resume and making it searchable on Dice. It's a WMQ Admin Job Hunters Market out there right now.

It's times like these when I remember things like employee orientations, all those mandatory touchy feely meetings and employee surveys and the subsequent mandatory touchy feely meetings in which they explain that Big Bank cares about it's employees and every employees opinion is important and Big Bank is loyal to it's employees and all the rest of that inane mind numbing tripe. Oh yean Big Bank care about youâ€¦â€¦..

Or not so much.

Boy did they throw it into me. I didn't even get a kiss let alone a reach around. They kicked me night in the rutts no anesthesia, not even a piece of leather to bite down on. Youâ€™re fucked mate.
