Is there a reason to have Point to Point channels defined in a cluster for three QMG's sharing Queues? We have three z/OS qmgrs that have some QSG's and they also are part of the same cluster along with numerous distributed QMGRs.

I have been digging though books to answer the question, but there is no documented reason for what I can see.

Anyone have a really good book in this area?

Or even a white paper would be good.

Thanks in Advance.

Do you mean p2p channels between the zOS qmgrs or between the zOS qmgrs and the distributed qmgrs, or both?

Well, if you need to move messages between those qmgrs that you can't keep in the QSG (like >63K in V5.3 of MQ), or you don't want to keep in a QSG (like >63K in V6*) then you'd need them ....

*Note: in V6 we do allow >63K msgs in the CF, but the bits >63K wind up in DB/2, which has a performance impact.

p2p channels (cluster channels) are also recommended for full repository queuemanagers.
