OKay, suppose you have a security system that allowed only application "a" to write to a queue. Whats to stop me from renaming application "b" to "a" and running that?

Sorry what you mean by renaming the application from B to A ??

Well, if you are running on UNIX:

Code:

mv b a

or Windows:

Code:

rename b.exe a.exe

and similar things for iSeries, zOS etc....
