Hi Guys,
I am new in this MQ series field and just took a short term course and looking for job in this field. Can any one please tell me what to read and practice to get MQ ADMIN job. IS it really hard to work in this field? Can you please tell how to install websphere software on unix platform, how to configure, how to deploy, how to test, etc, etc? I really need a job.
thanks |

A> To Read: Learn "Intercommunication" by heart (!), read "Application Programm Guide" cover to cover, go over "System Admin Guide" and "Clients" carefully, browse through "Clusters", "Security" and "Event monitoring".
B> To Do: Experiment with everything you read, you must - MQ is never understood fully until practiced and experienced; if you learn about reports, try them, learn about events, try it etc. Download a trial version of MQServer and client to do so.
C> Look at the IBM support pacs for MQ site, download the most useful ones, experiment.
D> Look up some Redbooks concerning MQ.
E> Use this site, but don't post questions that have answers in the manual, only conceptual or arcane problems. However, you may, and should, use the Search button freely
F> Use http://www.google.com.

Do you mean hard to Get a job or hard to work at?
Concerning how hard it is to get a job, I cannot reply, it depends on where you live, what the market state is like, and as always - luck; I can tell you that it will be *very* hard for you in most countries to get a job as an MQ Admin with no practical experience. EAI projects are almost always highly critical buisness processes, and companies like to feel safe.
Concerning "hard to work at" it depends where you work, I for example work as a consultant (which you wouldn't be able to do probably without a few years of xp) and it's quite laidback, because that's how I like it But usually it's a very high-strung job with plenty of (unpaid) overtime, no different than any other System-Oriented IT position.

Well, all this you must learn for yourself, using all the tools I specified above - mainly the manuals and the "search" button.

You'll also want to read the Quick Beginnings manual for the UNIX platform of your choice. |
