I have an Eclipse 3.0.2 installed. When I try to install MQ 6.0, it does not allow me to install since MQ keeps on asking for Eclipse 3.0.1.. Why not 3.0.2? Normally it is 3.0.1 and higher.
Can I have both (eclipse 3.0.1 and 3.0.2) in the same machine? Is there any work around? |

Yes, but it's looking for it's own "private" copy.

Yes. Leave the 3.0.2 where it is and load the 3.0.1 from the MQ CD into it's own directory.

It's part of the IBM WebSphere MQ installation. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I am sorry to rant here people but V6.0 using not only a fairly old version of eclipse for their product but also specifying a specific version is really pants! I appreciate that eclipse is an on-going developement and that certain components may be removed from one release to another but as IBM are fundementally part of this development group you would have thought it not too difficult to ensure that may only core components of eclipse are used for the product and tht any specific stuff is put in as a plug-in part. It is not clever that you have to potentially run X number of Eclipse version s on a box because you may want to use 3.1 for its new features, 3.01 for WMQ6.0, version something else for another specific IBM product, in this day and age the installation should have detected any instance of eclipse and either allow you to install anyway or better still just add the plug-in bits that are needed!
Most disgruntled and un-impressed that I have to have multiple version s of Eclipse on my box. |

It's a matter of testing.
The MQ team can't ship code based on a version of Eclipse that is not "stable" by the date that they have to build a release to send to the testing teams.
Yes, it's annoying to have multiple versions of Eclipse. But that's been a constant factor since IBM started using Eclipse to base their tooling.
And the MQ plugins can be migrated to different eclipse installs, so it is possible to build a really *unified* development environment. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

Try putting all the plugins into a 3.0.2 or 3.1 eclipse install, it may work OK. |

Copying the mq branded features, plugins, and the links folder appears to work for
Quote: |
Version: 3.1.0
Build id: I20050219-1500 |
Which is kind of an old build.
But this doesn't prevent the need to install the 3.0.1 version. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I have tried to move the plugins into later versions of eclipse before and although on the surface it looked OK and seemed to work OK, unfortunately you have no support if it all goes T skywards. There must be something in the installation script or some ini file that disables the check, like there is for the components in WBIMB V5 install, you get a warning and proceed at ypur own risk as such.
I appreciate your arguement jefflowrey on the issue of a product release date and "stable" version of the eclipse tool but part of my understanding of the eclipse tools was that you (i.e Joe Public) or any other vendor can write a suite of plugins and basically use the eclipse frame work, now assumedly if you use the core functionality and provide a "plugins" add on bits then all would be cool but if that is not the case then Eclipse is bit of a lame duck as it does not perform to what I considered originally one of its better features of having a "universal" framework that allowed others to provide specific perspectives regardless of author. |

I'm sure development of MQ v6 was written and tested to the latest stable version of eclipse some time in the past, this version being 3.0.1.
3.1 has only been around since the end of june, and the first maintenance release 3.1.1 was out 6 days ago!
I would use 3.1 and go back to 3.0.1 if you get a problem (unlikely). |
