Just installed 6.0 and ....
-can not admin the remote 5.3 qmgrs ( I can connect to them, I can see commands take effect on my machine but when I'm on the actual box things are unchanged)
-can not see 6.0 qmgrs from 5.3 qmgrs (WMQ states the qmgr is not running)
-can send msgs to 5.3 qmgrs but can not receive replies
Any suggestions ??? |

when you say "I can see commands take effect on my machine" do you mean you can see the changes in the Explorer window?

By "can not see from 5.3 qmgrs" you mean from 5.3 explorer? Please make the differentiation between MQExplore5.3 and a QM v5.3.
Anyway, if this is the case, then your command server is probably down.

That's silly, did you check the SDR? the XMITQ? did you define a remoteq? what exactly did you do?
Generally speaking, refrain from using the verb "see" both in the negative and positive form, it meaningless - a qmgrs doesn't "see" another qm, it "connects" to it through a channel, it "sends" message, no visual sensory mechanism applies... |

Of course I meant WMQ Explorer. If I was using contact admin or runmqsc I would have mentioned that. Hmm... I always thought default viewing tool on WIN is WMQ Explorer...
and yes that is a bit silly considering that this isnt a new set up where things could have been overlooked... old scripts you know...
The general triage have been performed so simple things such as making sure that cmd server is running or if xmit q or channels are defined properly have been already addressed.
Just to mention I have no errors in the win or qmgr logs on both machines otherwise I would have included them
And I will not refrain from using verb see. Like I said I can connect from 6.0 to 5.3 - I can SEE the qmgr in the WMQ Explorer - what good is WMQExplorer if I can not see the objects I want to administer ???
As to viewing 6.0 qmgr from WMQ Explorer 5.3 - I can not connect to him therefore I can not SEE the QMGR in WMQ Explorer...
And that's for win platform...
Did I miss something such as all qmgrs need to be 6.0 to qualify for remote admin
Anyone with positive interaction between 6.0 and 5.3 ???
Anyway, anyone with littlebit more insight on Remote Admin in 6.0 ??? |

I doubt you can connect to a v6 qmgr from a v5.3 explorer. Maybe I'm wrong.
If you can't connect fully to a v5.3 qmgr from the v6 explorer, it is likely a (silent) permissions problem, or you have not created the necessary queues for remote administration for v6. _________________ I am *not* the model of the modern major general. |

I have created SYSTEM.MQEXPLORER.REPLY.MODEL (model with tempdyn). That's what was needed for my migrated local qmgr to establish connection. So I have defined the same for my remote qmgr on 5.3.
I went over migration manual and install read me but i can find anything that addresses remote admin.
So I guess I should assume that admin of 5.3 from 6.0 is a no ???
I can not connect to z/os 5.3 at all - I thought that was one of new features of 6.0. It would be so nice to be able to administer z/os without extra software.
Have anyone succeeded in this type of connection for remote admin ???
Does z/os qmgr need to be at 6.0 to enable remote admin form win ??? |

I thought that z/OS MQ had to be at 6.0 (with the evil upgrade fee) for z/OS to take part in this without MO71? |

No no, the new feature is that WMQ on z/OS supports PCF commands, not the other way around. No type of explorer, be it 5.3 or the new v6 eclipse explorer, can connect to a z/OS QM 5.3.
Although admittadly I haven't tried this, I find it highly improbable that you can't connect with a v6 explorer to a 5.3 qm - first of all, there's the backwards compatibility thing, which is still one of IBMs principles, despite recent changes; second, I would assume that the v6 explorer uses PCF commands (how else would it connect?) and thus should theoretically work with all v5 QMs.
But, as said, I haven't tried this - if indeed v6 explorer to v5.3 qm connection is impossible, that will be a big minus on the IBM chartboard in my eyes. There are some people on this site who have been fiddling around with v6 for the past few months, they will probably have a better answer. |

(6.0 admin manual)
From a Windows or Linux (x86 platform) system, the WebSphere MQ Explorer can connect to all supported queue managers with the following exceptions: v WebSphere MQ for z/OS queue managers prior to Version 6.0. v Currently supported MQSeries® V2 queue managers.
Thanks all for your input |

I would hope that a CSD would update v5.3 with enough intelligence to, at least, ignore the parts of the PCF it didn't understand. More useful, but less likely, is an update to report the new features.

It does. I have a V6 explorer connected to a bunch of V5.3 QMs. Some directly and some indirectly. The only thing I did notice was an occaisional FDC cut due to a unrecognised Control Block version, but I believe this has been APARed and maybe even fixed.

Do you use the final or beta version of v6? I was sure this is an error only for betas

Going back through the threads on the beta newsgroup, it looks like this was only a problem when connecing to a v5.3 QM "via" another v5.3 QM with the Beta. It was mentioned that the Production version of the GUI would only use another v6 QM as an intermediary.
However, I haven't been able to try again since switching from the Beta to the Production code.
Sorry for any confusion caused.

Sure that what you need is not the SYSTEM.MQSC.REPLY.QUEUE as Model Tempdyn ??

Which still doesn't work for this:

That page does not list this restriction.
