I would like to know, whether the command 'strmqm' starts a queue manager, and a listener on the default port or it does the former part alone? Does the functioning of the command vary in different OS (say Windows and Linux)?

come on, do some rtfm...

check strmqm in the administration guide, it only starts the queuemanager.

the quick beginnings will help you to find out about the possibilities to make mq listen, depending on your plattform (listener, http deamon, ...)

No that would be going through the gui or using amqmdain...or inetd...
strmqm does not start the listener on Windows... unless it changed with V6.

Enjoy

In v6, you can define one or more "listener" objects, which can be automatically started whenever the qmgr starts. You can also define "service" objects to start things like trigger monitors and your own services ....

Cranky! the more I hear about v6 the more I think it was worth the wait; IBM downloads, here I come!
