I'm running MQSeries on a network that has Windows 2000 Domain Controllers. So I had to designate a user group as Domain MQM, and add my user to it, and everything worked fine.

Then the password for that account changed due to general network policy. I can ask my Network Administrator to set me up with a special account whose password never expires, but for now, I totally can't access MQ. What's more, I tried using the Prepare MQ Wizard to change the username/password that the MQM user should log in with, but all it tells me is that I can't log into there due to access restrictions - presumably, meaning that wrong password. It doesn't give me an option to change it.

How can I change this setting?

Run dcomcnfg from a command prompt or Start->Run

I don't recall what the GUI for this looks like for Win/2000 but I believe it is fairly intuitive. Look down the list of applications until you find one for WebSphere MQ. Look at the properties and I believe there is a tab for either security for identity. There you can enter the user and the new password.

There is some detail on this in the WMQ System Admin Guide under Secutiry.

Hope this helps.

Note that running the dcomcnfg may only work in the short term depending on how domain policies and refresh times are setup. If your domain policy is fairly tight and dcom components are controlled by that policy, each policy refresh will "undo" your security setting changes via the dcomcnfg command.

EX: In "a sample" domain, policies are force-refreshed every 50 minutes +/- a few, and so if I run dcomcnfg at 10:00 am and reset the password on the component, by 11:00 am, security authorization is now failing again because domain policy has reset the account authorization on the component.

The easiest solution is to get your admin to configure the domain websphere account with a non-expiring password.

Which is indeed my solution for the long term, but I first needed to get unstuck from where I was before I could get to doing that.

Thanks to all once again!
