My company is going to upgrade from Websphere MQ server 5.3 to 6.0.

Before migrating i wanted to know few questions about compatibility
1. Is it possbile to have 5.2 or 5.3 Websphere MQ client and connect to MQ 6.0 server without any compatibility issue or we will have to upgrade client as well to 6.0 version

2. Our application code sends messages to MQ using JMS. Do i need to replace 5.3 MQ specific jars with the latest 6.0 jars or same jars will do ?

I have searched in the client manual but no where they mentioned the compatiblity of 5.2 / 5.3 ver client with 6.0 server.

Thanks,

It has been the usual case that qmgrs support back level clients.

It is also the usual case that the Java API gets enhanced - sometimes quite significantly - with each version and CSD.

You should be able to run the 5.3 Java API against a 6.0 qmgr. But it's probably a better idea to upgrade.

Bear in mind that the Java API has apparently changed somewhat in version 6.

The Using Java manual for v6 will have specific details.

A classic example or a case approach we adopt in situations like this is,

when we migrated MQ v5.2 to V5.3 , we first implemented in Test env and requested all the apps to test thier functionality. There were couple of bugs that surfaced after CSD5 is applied

We quickly fixed that.

Then we migrated to production. It really went cool.

There will be minor incidents but we can quickly fix them. Unless it is needed, we don't go for a code fix.
